If you can believe it, about 132,277 pounds of food and countless microorganisms pass through our gastrointestinal tract in an average lifetime. These microbes form our gut microbiota1, a community of trillions that play a crucial role in our gut health that impacts digestive health, immune systems, brain function, and overall wellness.

Diet significantly shapes our gut microbiome and synbiotics2—a blend of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics—are particularly beneficial. Ritual’s daily synbiotic features this powerful trio, making it a top contender among the best prebiotic and probiotic supplements. But is it “mint” for you? (This will soon make sense.)

In this Ritual Synbiotic review, join me, a registered dietitian, as I examine its formulation and much more. Nicole Davis, CPT, PN1-NC, and GGR head of content, also shares her firsthand experience. Let’s dive in!

Experience Using Ritual Synbiotic

GGR Head of Content Nicole Davis, CPT, PN1-NC, tested Ritual Synbiotic and particularly praised its refreshing mint encapsulation and ease of swallowing. Although she experienced some mild gas, it was tolerable and possibly worth the results she noticed quickly. She shared, “I’ve only been taking it for a few days, but I think it’s been having a positive effect.”

Let’s dig deeper into Ritual Synbiotic+ and Nicole’s user experience.

Price Per Serving

Ritual Synbiotic+ costs $54 for a one-month supply, providing 30 servings at $1.80 per serving. This pricing places it on the higher end of the cost spectrum, resulting in a 1.5 out of 5 rating in this category.

Formulation

With its straightforward yet clinically-supported ingredients, we awarded Ritual Synbiotic’s formulation a perfect 5. Here’s a breakdown of what it offers:

Supplement Facts label on the back of a container of Ritual Synbiotic.

Prebiotic: PreforPro (15mg)

Prebiotics3 are non-digestible fibers that feed and nourish beneficial gut bacteria (probiotics). PreforPro4, a patented prebiotic, supports a wide range of probiotic species, including Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, included in Ritual’s synbiotic formula.

Probiotics: Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria Strains (120 mg)

Ritual provides 11 billion colony-forming units (CFUs) of two clinically studied probiotic strains: Lactobacillus rhamnosus5 (LGG®) and Bifidobacterium animalis ssp. lactis6 (BB-12®). These strains support digestive and immune health and may benefit conditions such as diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome7 (IBS), and respiratory tract infections.

Postbiotic: Tributyrin (300 mg)

Postbiotics like tributyrin8 are byproducts formed when probiotics ferment prebiotics in the gut. Tributyrin converts into butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid that supports gut health, boosts immune function, and reduces inflammation. The 300 milligrams of tributyrin reflect a clinically studied dose, including findings from a 2021 pilot study published in the Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics9.

Delayed-Release Capsule

We can’t talk about the formulation without highlighting its minty, delayed-release capsule. This preparation technique10 helps ensure the synbiotic blend survives stomach acid and reaches the colon, where probiotics can thrive. The innovative, moisture-controlled bottle technology also keeps the probiotics viable without refrigeration.

Taste and Swallowability

Ritual’s Synbiotic+ features a mint-flavored capsule, which Nicole found refreshing and aesthetically “cool” to match. She had no trouble swallowing it, rating its taste and swallowability a perfect 5 stars.

Some Ritual Synbiotic capsules are shown next to a USD quarter for size comparison.

Side Effects

Mild digestive symptoms—such as gas, bloating, and nausea—are the most common probiotic side effects, as experienced by our expert tester, Nicole. She shared, “I had a little gas, won’t lie, but not unbearable,” rating the side effects 3 out of 5.

Third-Party Testing

Like all Ritual products, their Synbiotic+ is rigorously third-party tested, uses traceable ingredients, and provides transparent sourcing, earning a perfect 5-star rating in this category.

  • Shipping locations: Ships to the US, UK, and Canada.

Ordering Ritual Synbiotic

Ordering Synbiotic+ through Ritual requires an account for their subscription service, which includes monthly deliveries and billing. However, you can expedite, delay, or cancel your order as needed.

Ritual Synbiotic+ is also available via Amazon, Whole Foods, and Target as a one-time purchase.

Customer Reviews

Most customers appreciate Ritual Synbiotic+, evidenced by its 4.1 out of 5-star rating on Amazon from nearly 1,200 reviews. Many users enjoy its minty capsule and notice benefits after a brief introductory period, while others complain about its packaging and strong mint flavor. Despite liking the product, some consumers feel the cost is too high to justify regular use.

On the Ritual site itself, Synbiotic+ boasts a score of 4.8, making the average customer score about 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Final Verdict of Our Ritual Synbiotic Review

Ritual Synbiotic combines a trifecta of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics to support a balanced gut microbiome and immune health. If you’re considering adding it to your supplement stack, consider these final thoughts:

  • Formulation: Features transparent, third-party tested formulation with evidence-based ingredients and dosages, though data on their synergy is limited.
  • Capsule experience: The mint-flavored capsule is a hit for many users but can be off-putting for some.
  • Cost: It’s relatively pricey, with mixed opinions on its value.
  • Purchase options: Available via subscription through Ritual or as a one-time purchase from third-party sellers like Amazon, Target, or Whole Foods.
