Greens powders sure are having their moment, and the greens era is expected to get greener until the next decade. In fact, a recent report1 expects the greens powder market to grow from $279.32 million in 2023 to $477.04 million by 2030!

The growth is credited to the flourishing interest in plant-based products, also perceived as healthier options. And when you strip greens powders down to what they truly are, they’re a blend of various antioxidant and nutrient-rich plants.

Moreover, some greens powders often contain dozens of ingredients (AG1 now has 75!), but Naked’s Green Superfood Powder only has 10. So, can Naked’s slim ingredient list stack up to some of the best greens powders? Find out in our Naked Greens review!

A Quick Look at Naked Greens

Whether it’s BCAAs or a whey protein powder supplement, Naked is notorious for its minimal-ingredient products—some even containing ONE ingredient, and most under three. And Naked’s green powder only contains 10 ingredients, which is a much shorter list than most other greens powders.

Also with a slogan like “Look at us naked, we’ve got nothing to hide,” Naked Nutrition prides itself on its commitment to transparency. But you know we don’t settle for face value at GGR—so join us as we explore Naked’s “premium daily greens powder” and find out if less really is more.

Before You Buy

  • Naked Greens Superfood Powder contains 10 nutrient-rich ingredients without artificial sweeteners and additives.
  • While Naked Greens provide non-GMO, organic greens and organic vegetables, it’s not Certified USDA Organic, if that’s important to you.

Is Naked Greens Worth It?

While we cover the specs in full below, Naked Greens (or at least at this time) doesn’t flex its commitment to transparency with this product. It contains nutrient-dense ingredients, but how much of each remains a mystery—which makes us question its effectiveness.

But if you’re a loyal Naked fan or simply want a no-fuss greens supplement, less than $1.00 per serving for a nutrient boost might be worth it.

Great for:

  • Anyone looking to sneak in some convenient nutrients
  • Individuals looking for a gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free greens powder
  • People wanting a simple greens powder that’s also keto and vegan-friendly

Not recommended for:

  • Using as a replacement for whole foods
  • People looking for a flavored tub (Berry is only available in single-serving packets)

Experience Using Naked Greens

GGR senior staff writer Amanda Capritto doesn’t seem too impressed with Naked Nutrition’s super greens powder. She tells us, “This isn’t Naked’s best work… Lots of their other products are great; this one is kind of subpar for the brand, IMO.”

Off to a bumpy start, but perhaps other aspects will win us over? Let’s find out.

Price Per Serving

One serving of Naked Greens costs $0.91 ($31.99 for 35 servings), which is on the lower end compared to other greens: Jacked Factory Green Surge offers one of the lowest at $0.75 per serving, while Athletic Greens AG1 is a whopping $3.30.

The price can also vary based on your chosen size, as Naked Greens Superfood Packets cost $1.60 per packet with the same formula. You’re certainly paying for the convenience of the packets, so choose what works best for your lifestyle and budget.

Formulation

The formulation is one of, if not the most telling pieces of a supplement’s effectiveness. We’ll let you in on why Naked’s greens product doesn’t have our full buy-in, but let’s first glance at its ingredients:

  • Naked Greens Blend (organic broccoli, organic alfalfa grass, organic kale, organic kale, organic spinach, organic spirulina, organic wheat grass), which add nutrient-density and provide most of the super greens powder benefits
  • Bacillus subtilis, the aforementioned probiotic—a type of good, “live” bacteria—that may promote digestive and immune health in adults and children according to a 2021 study.3
  • Organic ashwagandha, an adaptogen that enhances the body’s resilience to stress.
  • Organic Panax ginseng, a plant root that may resist stress and improve well-being.

The powder also comes in berry-flavored packets with the same formula but additionally contains natural plant-based flavors and monk fruit extract.

And now the dilemma: Naked claims its green powder provides 2+ servings of organic vegetables and grasses per scoop to promote detox, reduce stress, and support a healthy gut and immune system. But because the formula is a proprietary blend, we don’t know the exact amounts of each ingredient to examine if they’re present in clinically-effective doses.

Pouring Naked Greens Into Glass 2

Amanda further explains, “It is unclear how much of each ingredient is present, and because this product has a nutrition facts label and not a supplements facts label, it’s also unclear what micronutrients are present in what quantities (besides the usual sodium, potassium, iron, calcium, and vitamin D that do appear on standard nutrition labels).”

Amanda also expresses, “I’m a little bit surprised by this because normally Naked Nutrition is very transparent with their ingredient sourcing, quantities, and labeling. This greens powder definitely seems to be a bit lackluster compared to others.”

Taste and Solubility

Could this possibly have a great taste without sweeteners and flavors to mask the greens and grasses? Based on Amanda’s experience, hardly.

Naked Greens Powder

Amanda tells us, “I actually tried both because you can opt to purchase these in travel packets. The original is not good—just straight-up grass. The berry flavor is a bit better, but still very grassy. Berry is sweetened with monk fruit and contains “natural plant-based flavors” which I’m assuming is where the berry taste comes from (the original doesn’t contain either of those ingredients).”

She continues, “Also, this literally only contains the food powder blends and zero ingredients for texture, so… good luck getting this to shake up and mix well. Trying this made me lust for soy lecithin and xanthan gum LOL. It settles terribly and feels very, very grainy going down the hatch.”

Side Effects

Amanda mentions that she experienced “a bit of a weird mouthfeel after drinking it, but not something I’d call a true side effect.”

Digestive distress is also the most common side effect of greens powders due to ingredients like probiotics and fibers, especially if you’re not used to them. To safeguard against such risk, gradually increase the dosage or try one of the best greens powders for bloating

Third-Party Testing

Because dietary supplements aren’t tightly regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), we always prioritize products that are third-party tested to verify purity and safety. According to Naked Nutrition’s FAQ page, they use a U.S.-based third-party lab, and all products are produced in Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP)-certified facilities.

The greens powder is also Certified Gluten-Free through the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO), which requires products to contain no more than 10 parts per million (ppm) of gluten. This is important to note, as the FDA permits products with no more than 20 ppm of gluten to use the claim “gluten-free.”

Comparison to Athletic Greens

Athletic Greens AG1

Athletic Greens AG1

product image
GGR Score: 4

Product Highlights

  • Contains 75 minerals and nutrients in one serving
  • Available in travel pouches and bundle and save options
  • Said to support gut health with prebiotics, probiotics, and naturally occuring enzymes
  • Supports immunity with key ingredients like vitamin C and mushrooms
  • Magnesium is added to boost energy
  • May aid in recovery as it features superfood complex with adaptogens and antioxidants

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Backed by notable health experts
  • Transparent and detailed ingredient list
  • 75 vitamins and minerals

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Some reviewers dislike the taste

Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a greens powder with a unique blend of minerals, nutrients, power greens, enzymes, and probiotics and you're willing to spend some money, Athletic Greens may be a good choice for you.

Rebranded as AG1, Athletic Greens is one of the most popular greens supplements—and perhaps the most expensive at about $3.30 per serving (Naked Greens is $0.91 per serving). We even named Naked Greens one of the best Athletic Greens alternatives if you want a more budget-friendly option without unwanted additives and preservatives.

Naked Greens With Water

Beyond the price, the most notable difference is the number of ingredients: AG1 has 75, and Naked Greens just 10. AG1’s robust formulation offers more probiotic variety than Naked Greens while providing what it lacks—like digestive enzymes, prebiotics, adaptogenic mushrooms, and microalgae like chlorella.

Also unlike Naked Greens, AG1 is NSF Certified for Sport, making it ideal for competitive athletes and other consumers who rely on products without banned substances.

Overall, choosing between Naked Greens and AG1 will depend on your unique dietary needs and budget. Also, check out our in-depth Athletic Greens review to help guide your decision.

Customer Reviews

Over 200 customers rave about Naked Greens on Naked’s website, mostly awarding it a 5-star rating. And with over 700 ratings at 4.4 stars on Amazon, customers mostly appreciate its simple formulation without additives. The biggest turnoff for most is the flavor, although masking it with flavored drinks—like protein shakes and smoothies—seems to do the trick.

Final Verdict of Our Naked Greens Review

Naked Greens is a simple greens powder blended with 10 organic veggies, grasses, a pre- and probiotic, and a couple of adaptogens—without additives. While it’s not inherently “bad” as a proprietary blend, individuals with more targeted needs may fare better with a greens powder with itemized quantities.

But if you’re looking for a nutrient boost, and are comfortable with its earthy flavor, Naked Greens might be worth trying. Besides, Naked Nutrition is an overall reputable brand, and perhaps they’ll eventually be more transparent with their greens formulation.

Naked Greens FAQs

Do greens help you lose weight?

Weight loss is primarily the byproduct of a caloric deficit, whether through diet, exercise, or a combination. While greens don’t directly influence weight loss, they help fill nutritional gaps during a calorie deficit.

Are powdered greens worth it?

Because everyone’s dietary and supplemental needs are different, mileage will vary on whether or not powdered greens are worth it. However, they are a convenient option to enhance the nutrient profile of your daily diet.

Are green powders actually good for you?

Although the research about green powders is limited, we do at least know getting enough micronutrients in your diet is essential for good health and wellness. Greens powders should not replace a well-balanced diet but can provide a nutritional boost similar to a multivitamin.

Do super greens really work?

While super greens should not replace a well-balanced diet, their various nutrient-dense ingredients—like veggies, fruits, and probiotics—are known to support gut health, bolster immune health, and offer other health benefits.
