Chances are, if you’ve been around the workout block for a while, you’ve likely seen people wearing weighted clothing. Some people completely swear by it and wouldn’t be caught doing their strength training and cardio routines without them. Then there are others who question whether wearing weighted workout clothes would make a difference in helping them achieve their fitness goals.

Although weighted vests and clothing are hot in fitness right now (thanks to social media ads), they’re absolutely not a new concept. In fact, for years, trainers and fitness enthusiasts have added weight to their workouts to pump up the impact.

Coop had a chance to test out the OMORPHO weighted jacket and vest to see if they lived up to all of the hype. We’ll save that spoiler until later in our OMORPHO weighted clothing review. But, for now, hang tight as we highlight some of the great parts about OMORPHO weighted clothing and discuss some of the downsides.

A Weigh-In You Can Rely On

Your friends have probably tried one or two weighted vests, but they probably haven’t tried six or more of the best. Our GGR testers, which include exercise specialists, personal trainers, and more, have had their fair share of workouts with weight vests. We’ve tried budget-friendly ones, those best used for CrossFit, specialty vests like the Kensui EZ-Vest, and vests made specifically for women.

One thing that we realize is that what’s great for one person might not necessarily be good enough for another. Each and every single one of us has different fitness goals, preferences, budgets, etc. All of those factors need to be considered when you’re trying to decide what products to buy. Fortunately, you can rely on us to give you the much-needed deets, like this OMORPHO weighted clothing review, so you can make an informed decision before parting with your hard-earned bucks.

A Quick Look at OMORPHO Weighted Clothing

OMORPHO is one of many companies in the fitness market that is tapping into the new trend for weighted clothing. They offer short and long-sleeved shirts, tights, bike shorts, and more.  However, what they’re really known for is the OMORPHO G-Vest. It’s a uniquely designed product that has received awards from Forbes, Women’s Health magazine, and Men’s Health magazines.

Many people think that OMORPHO has been around for a while due to its success so far, but they’re a relative newcomer to the fitness market. They arrived on the scene in 2017 and made a big splash right out of the gate with the concept of microloading, AKA, using a small amount of weight distributed in careful patterns across the clothing.

omorpho clothing coop putting on vest

This offers a more advanced take on traditional weighted vests that many people have used for years and may not have particularly liked. According to Coop, they are also an alternative to weighted ankle and wrist bands that many athletes have relied on to amp up their workouts.

As Coop notes, there are a lot of weighted vest competitors on the market. However, the OMORPHO microloaded designs have allowed them to carve out their own niche. OMORPHO claims scientific evidence supports that their products will boost performance. There is some truth to that; for example, this 2019 study1 published in the Journal of Australian Strength and Conditioning found that adding weight resistance to the thighs could result in faster sprint times. However, this study only involved one participant, so it’s hard to know if everyone would benefit from it.

Before You Buy

  • Understand what microloading is and if you’d like that more than using traditional weighted clothing. Unfortunately, these aren’t as adjustable as other options, as you can’t add or remove weight plates.
  • They’re not cheap. For example, OMORPHO’s 5-pound weighted G Vest is almost $300, which is more than many other vests.

Is OMORPHO Weighted Clothing Worth It?

Coop, the founder of GGR and someone who has incorporated weighted clothing into his workouts for years, states that he used some of the early versions of weighted clothing way back in his high school athletics days. In addition, he’s tested some of the best weighted vests out there, so this gives him a lot to compare the OMORPHO products with.

“Do I like and recommend it? It depends,” Coop says. The costs for OMORPHO products are lofty, and they could price people out when there are much more affordable weighted clothing options on the market. However, those looking to get 1 percent better, like pro and competitive athletes, could find gold here.

As with any fitness product, there are strengths and weaknesses; this weighted apparel is no different. Below we highlight who will probably love these items and who may find it more hype than results.

Great for:

  • Everyday athletes who are looking to add load to their daily workouts
  • People who find weighted vests cumbersome and overly heavy.
  • People who want loading without a ton of extra weight

Not recommended for:

  • Serious CrossFit athletes
  • Someone looking for a huge performance boost
  • Those on a tight budget

What To Expect From OMORPHO Weighted Clothing

A quick glance at OMORPHO’s website, and you’ll see that their weighted clothes, like the G-Tight and G-Top, look a bit out of this world. As a result, it can be kind of challenging to know what to expect. Are they breathable? Is it comfortable to wear these during HIIT sessions? If you’re wearing their products, would you even notice the extra resistance if you’re doing pull-ups in your home gym? Seriously, curious minds want to know!

T-shirt

In our video review, Coop demonstrates what the OMORPHO long-sleeved T-shirt looks like and how it works. From an appearance standpoint, it is stretchy and actually looks a lot like many traditional moisture-wicking tees. It’s only when you get up close and personal that you notice the little ball weights that cover the product.

According to Coop, the men’s long sleeve shirt checks in at just over 2 pounds. Short-sleeved tees and tanks are even lighter. Once you put the product on, you don’t really notice the weight since it is so well-distributed across the product.

Weighted Vest

Coop was able to try out the weighted vest, too. He found that even though the weight vest is lighter than many of its competitors (it clocks in at 10 pounds), it still gives a good boost to many movement workouts. Therefore, if you’re a beginner and decide to do some burpees while wearing it, you’d probably notice a difference.

omorpho clothing vest in hand

The vest is much more slim fit and streamlined than other products on the market. We found that the weighted dots uniquely conform to the body’s normal curves, and the back portion is ventilated. The shoulder straps and side-cinch cords are a nice addition too.

The shoulder straps let you adjust it to fit your torso length, which is helpful because some of us have longer and/or shorter torsos. The side-cinch cords on the left and right sides of the vest can also be pulled so you can achieve a nice, snug fit. These cords, plus the front zipper, can be locked in place, too, so you don’t have to worry about them when doing jump lunges or something similar.

Ultimately, does the OMORPHO apparel make you fitter and faster? It could, but we can’t make any guarantees. The average consumer might not really notice or benefit from a 1 or 2 percent increase in performance, but elite athletes looking for those small advancements may find a solution here.

How Do You Decide Which OMORPHO Product Is For You?

The OMORPHO brand offers a lot of products, so how do you know which one you should purchase for yourself? If money grew on trees, we’d probably just grab one of each, but given that this is not the case and their products aren’t cheap, you must be a little more selective.

Therefore, I suggest being realistic about what types of workout activities you plan to do most often. If you plan on doing many running or sports-related activities, consider the G-Top and G-Tight. If you’re more of a cycler, try the G-Biker or G-Short bottoms with the G-Top or G-Tank shirts. If you think you’ll be doing various exercises like jumping jacks, rows, and planks, opt for the G-Vest.

If you really want to spice things up, layer the G-Top with a G-Vest. That’ll add some extra weight for those of you who want a bit more resistance.

Are OMORPHO Products Well-Constructed and Made To Last?

Honestly, one of Coop’s biggest concerns was if the little micro weights would come off with normal wear and tear. In his testing, though, he did not notice this happening. He also noted that this is not a complaint voiced in online reviews. Therefore, in his opinion, the construction is high-quality.

To ensure you can get the most out of your OMORPHO product, I recommend looking at the washing instructions. Some products, like the vest, shouldn’t be put in the washing machine or dryer. Instead, OMORPHO suggests you only spot clean or hand wash that and leave it to hang dry in the shade.

Uh, Did We Mention There’s An App With That?

When you purchase any of their Gravity Sportswear, you’ll also get access to their library of workouts, which consists of exercises you can do while wearing the weighted apparel. If you purchase the OMORPHO G-Vest specifically, there’s a tag behind the logo that you can put your phone up to. That’ll prompt you to either download the app or start a workout session if you’ve already downloaded the app. Each session is 20 minutes long.

If you haven’t purchased any Gravity Sportswear items, you can still download the app, but you’ll only get to view five trial workouts. Also, sorry, Android users. This app is only available on iOS for now.

The Customer Experience

If you’ve never purchased from this brand before, it’s normal to be on the fence about it. After all, there are a lot of companies out there that have pretty good products but terrible customer service. So, how does OMORPHO stack up?

Ordering OMORPHO Weighted Clothing

OMORPHO products can be ordered directly on the brand’s website, and there is a range of sizes and multiple colors to choose from. However, you might find that some items are out of stock. For instance, their G-Vest is in high demand, so don’t be surprised if you see a “Join the Waitlist” button. When browsing their website, I noticed that quite a few products wouldn’t be available to purchase for another two to three months. Therefore, prepare yourself mentally because what you want might not even be available.

Returns and Exchanges

The brand states that they guarantee customer satisfaction, so if you’re not satisfied, they ask that you contact them so they can make it right. They do allow free returns if the items are sent back within 30 days of purchase. However, you can’t return them if you’ve worn or washed them. Once they receive your returned item, they’ll refund the money to your original payment within 3-5 business days. You can also ask for store credit.

Exchanges are okay, too, if you’re swapping it for a product at the same price point.

Lastly, be sure to contact their support team before sending a product back, as you’ll need prior authorization for exchanges and returns. Without that, your items won’t be accepted.

Is Financing Available?

These products aren’t cheap, but there is an option to use Klarna to pay for them over time.

Customer Reviews

The vast majority of customer reviews on the Internet for the product are stellar, highlighting its durability, construction, and attractive aesthetics.

One recent Google review by Katie noted, “I often get comments on how amazing it looks with the weighted bead pattern distributed all over. I feel amazing wearing it.”

Another Google reviewer, Mimi, noted that she is able to use the product every day and for a wide range of activities and never has to worry about its durability. She said, “It’s definitely good quality, which nowadays is rare.”

Final Verdict of Our OMORPHO Weighted Clothing Review

Coop cautions that there are many things to think about before taking the plunge into buying an OMORPHO product. The first drawback is that the science behind microloading is somewhat fuzzy. These products cannot be incrementally weighted up. You get a one-weight product for its entire lifespan. Based on this, Coop is naturally skeptical that the average weekend warrior is going to see a lot of bang for their workout buck. This brings us to the second drawback, the bucks part of this equation. These products are expensive. Even a simple short-sleeved tee will set you back $139.

However, if you have an unlimited budget, a thirst for the newest technology, and a love of aesthetically pleasing design, you can rest assured that you will get a durable, well-constructed product if you make the OMORPHO a plunge.

Overall, we’ve found that OMORPHO products:

  • Do not currently have a lot of reliable science to back up the ambitious claims
  • They are not likely to give average athletes a huge uptick in their performance. Even if there is a small performance bump, it is still hard to justify the exorbitant OMORPHO prices, especially since there is little versatility.
  • They are visually appealing and definitely reminiscent of Nike products.
  • Offer great durability and construction.

OMORPHO Weighted Clothing FAQs

How Much Does The OMORPHO Vest Weigh?

It depends on which one you buy. The women’s vest is 5 pounds, while the men’s vest is 10 pounds. Both are much lighter than many of its competitors’ products, which weigh 14 pounds or more.

Does Weighted Vest Help Lose Belly Fat?

Well, yes and no. Yes, because carrying extra weight makes our bodies burn more calories, so in turn, we lose body fat. In fact, a study2 evaluated two groups: one group wore 2.2-pound vests, and the other wore 24-pound weighted vests. The individuals wearing heavier vests lost more weight than those wearing lighter ones.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that a weighted vest can’t specifically target belly fat. Not even ab rollers can do that.

Is It Safe to Wear a Weighted Vest All Day?

We wouldn’t recommend wearing a weighted vest all day. Even though these particular vests are on the lighter side, I imagine wearing them non-stop would cause muscle soreness and tiredness. The best way to get the most out of them is to wear them while working out.
