A Quick Look at the Sun Home Sauna Blanket
When you visit the Sun Home Saunas website, you’ll find everything you could possibly need for biohacking and recovery including cold plunge tubs, red light therapy masks, traditional saunas, and infrared saunas.
The Sun Home Saunas infrared sauna blanket is one of the more affordable recovery options available from the brand, with the traditional saunas featuring far infrared light technology and high-quality lumber.

Before You Buy
- Don’t forget to unplug: When not in use, be sure to unplug your blanket.
- This blanket is not meant to be used on synthetic, latex, foam mattresses, or water beds. It’s best used on traditional flooring, rugs, or a yoga mat.
- While many hot and cold therapy recovery brands claim to promote weight loss and detox, there is limited research to back these claims. However, sauna bathing will promote sweating and increased blood flow through your body, which may give an effect of detoxification.
Is the Sun Home Sauna Blanket Worth It?
If you’re in the market for an at-home sauna but you just don’t have the square footage for something so large, a sauna blanket is an excellent alternative. For about $500, you’ll get an ultra-portable heat therapy device with a maximum temperature of 167 degrees Fahrenheit (75 degrees Celsius).
Traditional home saunas cost much more—starting around $5,000—and take up more space and energy. We think it’s worth it for folks who either don’t have a ton of space or plan on sauna bathing alone. It’s not an ideal situation for friends and families to have sauna sessions together.
Keep in mind this sauna experience is going to be different from a traditional sauna. You’ll be lying down in essentially a heated sleeping bag. While this sounds relaxing for some, it could be a bit claustrophobic for others.

Using the Sun Home Sauna Blanket
Our expert tester Lindsay used this infrared sauna blanket for a handful of sessions, each about 30 to 45 minutes. The highlight of her testing experience is the fact you can set up the sauna blanket nearly anywhere you want. “You can make your experience super cozy which may add tons of value to your overall recovery from exercise and stress,” says Lindsay.
Her main callout—which we’ll dive into in more detail when we cover the temperature controls—is the measurement used on the heat settings. “Sun Home Saunas use Celsius on both their cold plunge tubs and saunas, so I was not surprised to see it here too,” says Lindsay. “Although it would be nice if there was an option to toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
“Other than that, this Sun Home Sauna blanket is super straightforward and would be easy to implement into your weekly routine,” she adds.

Footprint and Portability
When it comes to footprint and portability, this is an excellent solution for on-the-go sauna bathing or anyone limited on space. The Sun Home Sauna blanket earns a 5-out-of-5-star rating in this category because, much like a regular blanket, this sauna blanket can be rolled up and tucked away in a closet.
When unfolded, it measures about 6 feet long and just over 5 feet wide with about 65 inches of circumference on the interior when zipped up. Keep in mind these measurements are intended for one person at a time.

Temperature Performance
When it comes to overall performance, our testers are testing saunas for ease of use, heat retention, and heat controls. Lindsay found that the Sun Home Sauna infrared blanket took a bit longer than she expected to get the highest setting, but the higher temperatures worked well. For overall performance, the blanket earns 4.5 out of 5 stars. She docks a half-point for the display not offering the temperature in both Celsius and Fahrenheit.
“Before I started, I had to quickly Google a Celsius conversion because I’m used to Imperial measurements,” says Lindsay.
“It took 30 minutes to get the sauna blanket to 75 degrees Celsius, which is the highest heat setting,” she says. “Once it was up to temperature, it held steady at 75 degrees, which is about 167 degrees Fahrenheit.”
RELATED: How Long Should You Stay in a Sauna?
Lindsay appreciated the fact the outside of the blanket—the outer polyurethane leather layer—did not get overly hot. This was great news for her arms, which she placed on the outside of the blanket and her flooring at home.
When Lindsay used the controls to set the temperature, other than the fact the display uses Celcius, she thought it was intuitive and easy to use. She notes there are five buttons on the controller: a power button, two buttons to control the temperature, and two buttons to control the time. “It’s simple but gets the job done,” she says.
Ergonomics and Aesthetics
When our testers use and review saunas, we’re typically looking for comfortable seating, enough room to relax, and high and low seating options. “But because this is a blanket, the comfort is really up to you,” says Lindsay.
“You can virtually use this blanket anywhere,” she adds. But it’s worth noting that the user manual cautions not to use the sauna blanket on water beds, foam mattresses, or other flammable materials. It’s best suited on top of carpeting or a yoga mat. Lindsay notes she enjoyed testing this on her living room floor with her favorite TV show just as much as she did on the gym floor as her post-workout recovery.
RELATED: Dry Sauna Benefits
Lindsay says another GGR tester used the sauna blanket for a 45 minute session and reported feeling a bit claustrophobic during the last 10 to 15 minutes. The combination of actively sweating, the bamboo blanket insert, and the weight of the sauna blanket made for a rather confined feeling.
Another consideration we typically make while testing stand-alone saunas is the design and aesthetics. Even though this is a sleeping bag-style sauna and can be stowed away easily, Lindsay still says it’s nice looking and simple.

Pros & Cons
Pros
- Promotes circulation
- May aid muscle recovery
- Portable design

Bottom Line
The HigherDOSE Infrared Sauna Blanket offers a portable and affordable alternative to installing a sauna in your home. The sauna blanket uses far infrared technology to provide heat stimulation to your entire body while you’re inside the sauna blanket.
Our tester Lindsay has used stand-alone saunas, sauna blankets, and tent-style saunas from other popular brands like Polar Monkeys, Redwood Outdoors, MiHigh, LifePro, and Hydragun. But based on Lindsay’s experience, the Sun Home Saunas infrared blanket is most comparable to the HigherDOSE sauna blanket.

While both sauna blankets are very similar—offering low EMF (electromagnetic field) infrared currents—there are a few differences. First, the HigherDOSE blanket offers eight levels of heating, but doesn’t indicate a specific temperature. Second, the construction of the HigherDOSE blanket includes charcoal, clay, a magnetic strip, and a layer containing amethyst and tourmaline, which we cover in more detail in our HigherDOSE infrared sauna blanket review.
For the same price, you get a very similar product, both covered by a one-year warranty policy. But if having crystals like amethyst and tourmaline embedded into the sauna fabric matter to you, the HigherDOSE blanket might be more suitable.

Customer Experience
Lindsay had no issues or need to contact Sun Home Sauna with the blanket, but notes her previous experience contacting the company was super smooth. During her testing experience for our Sun Home sauna review on the five-person outdoor infrared sauna, Lindsay had a few questions and reports that customer service got back to her within two hours.
There are multiple methods of contacting Sun Home Saunas including a general inquiry form, email, phone number, and chatbot function.
Speaking of great customer service, the brand offers a 30-day risk-free return policy on the sauna blanket. If you decide to return your sauna blanket, all you have to do is navigate to the returns portal on the Sun Home Saunas website where you’ll start by entering your order number. Keep in mind accessories like the bamboo insert and cleaning spray are non-refundable. Also, if you used Affirm to finance your purchase, you may have additional fees during the return process.
To finance through Affirm, you’ll go through the traditional checkout process and select the Affirm option when you navigate to the payment webpage. You’ll be redirected to Affirm and financing rates range from 0 to 36% with loan terms between 3 to 6 months, depending on your credit history.
Setup and Maintenance for the Sun Home Sauna Blanket
Lindsay says the ordering, delivery, and setup process from Sun Home Saunas was a cinch and the blanket earns a 5-star rating in this category. It arrived at GGR HQ in a simple, well-branded box. Inside the box Lindsay found the sauna blanket, carrying bag, instructions manual, controller, and power cords.
She says the hardest part of the entire sauna blanket set-up process was the unboxing. “Once the blanket is out of the box and taken out of the canvas carrying bag, all you have to do is plug the controls into the blanket and the power cord into a wall outlet,” she says.
The maintenance process is nearly as easy as the setup. You’ll need a multi-purpose household cleaner to wipe down the inside of the sauna blanket after every use. When fully unzipped, you’ll be able to lay the entire blanket flat for easy cleaning after each use.

Customer Reviews
On the Sun Home Sauna website there are almost 3,000 customer reviews and nearly every single one of them gives a 5-out-of-5-star rating to this sauna blanket. In fact, only five of the featured customer reviews give a 4-star rating, all of which were still overwhelmingly positive.
Because Sun Home Saunas are exclusively sold through the brand’s website we can’t capture customer reviews from third-party sites like Amazon. There were no customer reviews on Trustpilot either.

Sun Home Sauna Blanket: FAQs
Do sauna blankets really work?
The best infrared sauna blankets work by layering heat resistant, non-toxic fabric over infrared heating coils. Once up to temperature, far infrared sauna blankets are ready for you to climb in, zip up, and relax.
What are the disadvantages of a sauna blanket?
General sauna use, including sauna blankets, is typically safe for healthy adults. However, infrared sauna dangers are present for people with heart and cardiovascular disease, skin diseases, cancer, metal implants or heart devices, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before using a sauna if you have these or any other conditions.
How do you use a Sun Home Sauna blanket?
The Sun Home Sauna infrared blanket is easy to use. You’ll plug in to a regular wall outlet, set to your desired temperature, and get in like you would a sleeping bag. It’s best used on carpeting or a yoga mat and it is not intended for use on a foam mattress. You can also use the control panel to set a timer up to 60 minutes.
Do sauna blankets burn fat?
Sauna use may not directly lead to burning fat or weight loss, but it can increase your heart rate much like cardiovascular exercise can, which may help your heart health improve in addition to your overall health.
