A Quick Look at Naked Nutrition Naked Mass
Naked Nutrition is known for its simple, artificial additive-free nutrition supplement formulations. Their Naked Mass weight gainer is no different, made only with three simple ingredients: organic tapioca maltodextrin, whey protein concentrate, and micellar casein.
Naked Mass is marketed as a convenient way to fuel workouts, meet increased calorie demands for weight gain, build lean muscle, and enhance muscle recovery after a workout.
Before You Buy
- Avoid taking this before a workout if you can’t exercise on a full stomach.
- We found it’s best when used in a smoothie rather than mixed only with milk or water.
- Vegan Naked Mass made from pea protein and brown rice protein is also available.
Is Naked Mass Worth It?
If you struggle to get enough calories to gain weight or build lean muscle despite eating a balanced diet, Naked Mass could be a helpful product thanks to its calorie- and protein-packed formula.
It’s non-GMO, soy-free, certified gluten-free, and free from unnecessary additives and artificial ingredients, making it appropriate for many dietary preferences.
Naked Mass is effective but expensive, meaning the potential benefits may not outweigh the price depending on your budget. Of course, if you need to gain weight for medical reasons, it’s difficult to place a price on your health.

Experience Using Naked Mass
When asked his thoughts on the product, Jacob told us he “liked this mass gainer, but it wouldn’t be my first choice—mostly because the only way for me to consume it is to make a huge blender shake, which is time-consuming.”
That said, he liked the simple ingredients and was impressed with “how they list out the aminos in the protein profile.”
Price Per Serving
At $6.36 a serving, this is one of the priciest mass gainers we’ve encountered. It’s an effective product with high-quality ingredients, but the astronomical price point makes it unaffordable for many.
Similar products exist at lower price points, so we had to give Naked Mass a 1 out of 5 rating for price.
Formulation
Unflavored Naked Mass contains only tapioca maltodextrin, grass-fed whey protein concentrate, and micellar casein protein, offering 50 total grams of protein and 11.5 grams of BCAAs.
RELATED: What Is Casein Protein?
Whey protein is quick-digesting and optimal for supporting muscle growth soon after a workout, while slow-digesting casein assists with muscle recovery over a longer period of time.
Maltodextrin is the primary source of calories and carbohydrates in this gainer, providing a whopping 252 grams of carbs per serving. While technically a complex carbohydrate, maltodextrin is highly processed and has a high glycemic index thanks to its low dietary fiber content.
This is helpful for weight gain, but may not be appropriate for people with health conditions which require them to prevent excessive spikes in blood sugar.
Note that other flavors contain additional ingredients like organic coconut sugar or cacao powder.
Overall, we were pretty impressed with the simple formulation of this weight gainer, rating it a 4 out of 5.

Taste and Solubility
Jacob wasn’t a big fan of this mass gainer on its own. He felt that “it’s not good mixed with milk—it tastes like I’m drinking heavy cream.” He preferred it mixed with water but still didn’t enjoy the flavor.
However, adding it to a smoothie was a game-changer. “I mix it with half a banana, 12 ounces of milk, peanut butter, and cocoa powder and it’s incredibly delicious. You can’t tell there is mass gainer in there,” he noted.
Jacob noticed that it blended perfectly in smoothies, but was “a bit gritty and really foamy” when mixed with water alone.
Overall, we rated Naked Mass a 4 out of 5 for both flavor and solubility.
Side Effects
Mass gainers make it easy to consume up to 1,000 calories or more at a time, which can result in gastrointestinal side effects for some people. These effects can be even worse in people with lactose intolerance.
Fortunately, Jacob didn’t notice any unpleasant side effects when using Naked Mass, likely due in part to its low fat content. We gave it a 5 out of 5 rating in this category.

Third-Party Testing
Naked Mass is Informed Choice certified, meaning that product batches are blind-tested monthly for contaminants like heavy metals and stimulants.
Since the FDA doesn’t regulate dietary supplements, choosing a third-party-tested product is a great way to ensure that what you’re consuming is safe.
Informed Choice is a highly respected certification, earning Naked Mass a 5 out of 5 rating here.

Bottom Line
Transparent Labs Mass Gainer is one of the more expensive mass gainer supplements, but it offers high-quality, naturally occurring, and clean ingredients that taste good.
Mass gainers are pricier than traditional protein powders, so it’s important to have a good understanding of the available options before purchasing.
To help you decide whether Naked Mass is right for you, we’ve compared it to a similar product: the Transparent Labs Mass Gainer. At $5.13 per serving, Transparent Labs Mass Gainer is slightly more affordable than Naked Mass, although the serving size is much smaller at two scoops versus Naked Mass’ four scoops. While Transparent Labs Mass Gainer’s smaller serving doesn’t contain as many calories as Naked Mass, it does contain a similar amount of protein.

Customer Reviews
Naked Mass commands an impressive 4.5-star rating from 1,180 customer reviews on the Naked Nutrition website in addition to almost 4,000 Amazon reviews at the time of writing.
Most reviews on their website praise the product’s effectiveness, claiming it has helped them gain weight after other mass gainers failed.
On Amazon, many customers loved the unflavored and chocolate versions, praising their versatility. Some also appreciated that Naked Mass didn’t cause stomach issues like other brands. Like our tester Jacob, however, some customers noted that this gainer doesn’t seem to mix very well.
Final Verdict of Our Naked Nutrition Naked Mass Review
All dietary supplements are meant to be used in conjunction with balanced meals containing whole, fiber-rich foods, if possible. When trying to gain weight, your first strategy should be to include more high-calorie, nutrient-dense foods and snacks.
However, Naked Mass could be an effective, helpful product for people who struggle to eat well due to poor appetites, medical conditions that make it difficult to keep weight on, or for those with an unusually high metabolism.
Overall, we had the following takeaways after testing this mass gainer:
- It’s effective for weight gain thanks to its high calorie and protein content
- The benefits may not outweigh the sky-high price for many people
- Tastes the best when blended in a smoothie or protein shake with other flavorful ingredients

Naked Mass: FAQs
Which mass gainer is most effective?
If your goal is to build muscle mass, most mass gainers should help as long as you’re performing adequate resistance exercise. If you still struggle to gain weight, a mass gainer with higher calories may be needed.
Does mass gainer affect kidneys?
Mass gainers are likely safe for healthy people but may put too much stress on the kidneys in those with impaired kidney function, such as chronic kidney disease, due to the high protein content.
Does mass gainer increase belly fat?
Mass gainer is most likely to increase belly fat when taken without a resistance training program. By including resistance training, more of the calories from a mass gainer will be used for building lean muscle rather than increasing body fat.
Are mass gainers good or bad for you?
Mass gainers can be a helpful way to build lean muscle or gain weight when your appetite is poor, both of which are beneficial for overall health. Since they contain carbohydrates with a high glycemic load, they may not be appropriate for people with diabetes.
