Editor’s Note: The NordicTrack C2255 Treadmill  is no longer in production. We suggest viewing the NordicTrack EXP 10i as the best alternative, or view our guide to the best treadmills for more options.

The NordicTrack C2255 is in a line of successful machines from the brand, offering a budget-friendly price tag and reliable performance, along with a few added bells and whistles.

There is a lot to love about the C2255, from the adjustable cushioning provided by the DuraSoft III advanced system to the iPod and iFIT integration. As technology advanced, however, the luxe features were rapidly rendered obsolete.

The C2255 also suffered from comparatively weak performance compared to other commercial grade treadmills, both by NordicTrack and by competitors like ProForm and BowFlex. Eventually, NordicTrack phased the C2255 out of production, replacing it with new iterations of the line like the NordicTrack Commercial 2450 or the NordicTrack EXP 10i.

Although this treadmill is discontinued, we’re giving a full NordicTrack C2255 review along with a recommendation for a superior alternative you can purchase today.

Bottom Line

The NordicTrack EXP 10i Treadmill is a good option for at home workouts. While you might find more advanced treadmills, the value for the price makes this treadmill stand out.

Because it’s discontinued, you won’t find a NordicTrack C2255 treadmill at most or any retailers. If you happen across a secondhand unit in good working condition, it’s an inexpensive option but you won’t be able to do too much if you’re an avid runner or heavier user.

For those reasons, we recommend bypassing the dinosaur that is C2255 altogether and splurging for something slightly more premium that provides more value. Our pick is the NordicTrack EXP 10i, which incorporates an incredibly pleasing amount of tech and great performance specs in the medium price range.

The NordicTrack EXP 10i does everything the C2255 can do, except it performs and looks significantly better.

A Quick Look at the NordicTrack C2255 Treadmill

The NordicTrack C2255 is a great starter treadmill with many features, including OneTouch speed and incline controls, DuraSoft III adjustable cushioning, iPod and iFIT compatibility, AutoBreeze cooling fan, a CardioGrip Heart Rate Monitor, and 15 preset training programs. It also features a SpaceSaver design, as the treadmill folds easily and wheels away for low profile storage.

You get a lot of bang for your buck out of what was a fairly inexpensive treadmill. However, hardcore runners will not find the C2255 suitable for more than a brisk walk. In addition, the Grafixx Hi-Resolution Display was once fairly attractive, featuring an animated figure walking in solidarity with you, but it’s pedantic by today’s standards where touch screens are the norm.

It’s a good treadmill for beginners and walkers, but dedicated runners need not apply here.

Key Features of theNordicTrack C2255 Treadmill

If you’re looking for a straightforward treadmill with some extras rolled in, the NordicTrack C2255 delivers a good deal of value. It won’t be the most heavy duty or visually pleasing option you can get, but it’s not a bad starter treadmill if it’s available for a song.

The NordicTrack C2255 today, however, is outclassed by many other treadmills on the market.

Footprint, Portability, and Durability

The footprint of the NordicTrack C2255 is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, owners with limited space to place their treadmill will love the smaller footprint since they can cram it into close quarters and still enjoy a reasonably sized treadmill belt. On the other hand, users who are much taller than six feet will find the tread belt a tad short and will have to bend to grip the handlebars.

Regarding portability, the SpaceSaver design allows for folding for easy storage. The folding treadmill also includes wheels for stashing the treadmill in a corner, against a wall, or anywhere else when it is not in use. Given its lightness, it’s one of the easier ones to stow away as needed.

The C2255 loses more points on durability. It’s a lighter treadmill than many and, although the manual indicates a max user weight of 300 pounds, we’d be shocked to see someone much above 225 enjoy use of the treadmill without feeling it wobble.

Ergonomics

NordicTrack implemented a number of smart design features to maximize ergonomics on the C2255. The OneTouch speed and incline controls, for example, are great for adjusting things in a pinch. The options on the console are also quite easy to navigate.

One of the best features of the C2255 is the DuraSoft III advanced cushioning system which allows a user to adjust the level of cushioning to your personal sensibilities. NordicTrack reports this technology can reduce impact on your joints by up to 33% compared to the pavement outside.

Technology Benefits and Conveniences

When released, there was plenty to love about the NordicTrack C2255. The Grafixx Hi-Resolution Display presented valuable metrics mid-workout such as the heart rate, while also throwing in a quirky animated figure walking along with you to show your progress.

The NordicTrack C2255 also included an Interplay universal iPod dock, iFIT workout card technology, a CardioGrip Heart Rate Monitor, and an AutoBreeze cooling fan. For the price point, that’s an impressive array to include.

The problem with these conveniences today is that just about every mid-tier treadmill and beyond includes similar or more advanced versions of the technology here. At the time, it was stunning, but today it’s just par for the course.

Final Verdict of Our NordicTrack C2255 Treadmill Review

If you stumble across a fairly priced NordicTrack C2255, it’s far from the worst treadmill you could buy for your home gym. It might even be all you need if you’re a novice runner or plan to use it for burning calories by walking.

That said, we would not recommend hunting one down while there are many superior options that are also much easier to find, namely the NordicTrack EXP 10i. Overall, the NordicTrack C2255 was once an impressive piece of fitness equipment, but that day has passed.

NordicTrack C2255 Treadmill FAQs

Which NordicTrack is best?

We like the value you get from the NordicTrack EXP 10i. As with most high-end treadmill brands, however, there are many great choices. Here are our picks for the best NordicTrack treadmills available now.

Are NordicTrack treadmills better than ProForm?

NordicTrack and ProForm are two of the big players when it comes to high-end treadmills. Both provide superior quality compared to other treadmills on the market. And both are companies under the iFIT umbrella.

NordicTrack treadmills tend to be more expensive with high-end features, whereas ProForm is often the more affordable of the two. However, differences in comparable specs on these machines are often slight.

How do I fold my NordicTrack C2255?

First and foremost, make sure the treadmill is set to the lowest incline setting, powered off, and unplugged. NordicTrack recommends that only users capable of lifting 45 pounds or greater raise, lower, or move the C2255.

Bend your legs and maintain a straight back as you take hold of the metal frame. Raise it until the latch knob is locked in the storage position and double-check the lock. Triple-check the lock if need be, as the treadmill will not stay folded if it is loose or otherwise not fully engaged.

Your NordicTrack C2255 is now safely folded and may be wheeled away for storage. Be sure to consult your user’s manual for more information on safety procedures and troubleshooting.

How long do NordicTrack treadmills last?

The manufacturer estimates their treadmills will perform reliably for 10 years if properly maintained. With some upkeep and care, you may extend the lifespan past this projection.
