A Quick Look at MuscleTech Mass Tech Extreme 2000
MuscleTech was launched in 1995 and specializes in supplements for fitness enthusiasts and bodybuilders, including famous supplements like Nitro-Tech and Cell-Tech. MuscleTech also makes a lower-calorie mass gainer, but Mass Tech Extreme 2000 is the highest-calorie post-workout shake MuscleTech offers.
The recommended serving size of Mass Tech Extreme is six whole scoops, and each container has five servings, for a total of 30 scoops. If you use the recommended serving size, you’ll be getting 2,110 calories if you mix it with water. As far as mass gainers go, this one is significantly higher in calories than its competitors.
Mass Tech Extreme 2000 also includes a vitamin and mineral blend in the ingredients, so this may be intended to replace any multivitamins you’re using.

Each scoop is rich in protein, carbs, and creatine, and pretty low in fat, and while the cost is quite high on MuscleTech’s website, you can grab a bottle off Amazon for a significantly lower cost—but even that discounted price results in a fairly high price per serving. Let’s get into the details and see if MuscleTech Mass Tech Extreme 2000 is worth the cost.
Before You Buy
- The recommended serving size contains nearly double the calories as most other mass gainers, so you may be able to get similar benefits using only a half-serving, bringing down your total cost per serving.
- If you do use the recommended serving size, you’ll be taking in 10 grams of creatine, double the standard dose.
- Our tester was unimpressed with the flavor and said the shake was extremely thick and hard to drink, so this may be thicker than you’re expecting, especially if you use the full six scoops.
Is MuscleTech Mass Tech Extreme 2000 Worth It?
Mass Tech Extreme 2000 has the highest price per serving of any mass gainer we’ve tested to date, so before you spend your hard-earned money on this expensive supplement, you need to make sure it matches your goals and preferences.
Great for:
- Those who struggle to consume enough calories from food to support muscle-building
- Anyone looking to maximize gym performance with a high dose of creatine
- Those who want to replace a meal with a protein shake for convenience
Not recommended for:
- Anyone on a calorie-restricted diet
- Beginners who may not need a 2,100-calorie shake yet
- Those who prefer smooth, thinner protein shakes

Experience Using MuscleTech Mass Tech Extreme 2000
You’re here for honesty, so we’re not going to sugarcoat anything—Colin wasn’t impressed with Mass Tech Extreme 2000. He didn’t like the flavor, it was very thick, and he said with other options on the market, he saw no reason to use this again.
Now, this product does have plenty of positive reviews, many of which say they love the flavor. Taste is subjective, so don’t let our tester’s opinion alone convince you not to buy this product, but we’ve got to call it out. Our experience wasn’t great.
Colin only tried this once and really didn’t like it, so we can’t speak to the results you’ll see from using this product consistently. However, as a certified nutrition coach myself, I feel pretty confident in saying that adding 2,100 calories to your daily intake is certainly going to make an impact on your physique.
RELATED: Mass Gainer Pros and Cons
Price Per Serving
As far as mass gainers go, this is the most expensive one we’ve tested, earning a 2 out of 5 rating.
While the product is usually around $39.99 on Amazon, MuscleTech directly sells each tub for $54.99, which results in a per-serving cost of $7.99 or $10.99 depending on where you get the product.
If you order from MuscleTech, you can save 10% on each order if you set up a subscription which will automatically ship you more every three weeks, bringing the total down to $49.49. You can also sign up for a MuscleTech account and receive 5% off after your first order, so you’d pay full price first, and then receive a discount on your next order.
Formulation
When it comes to the formulation, this is an interesting product that scores a 3 out of 5.
The macronutrient profile includes 60 grams of protein per serving and over 450 grams of carbs with only 5 grams of fat. The carb number is higher than most other mass gainers, mainly from maltodextrin.
Interestingly, the recommended serving size contains 10 grams of creatine monohydrate. Creatine is the most researched sports supplement, and nearly all studies agree that 3-5 grams is all you need1. I’d guess that MuscleTech expects everyone to only use half a serving, which would bring its creatine content to the recommended 5 grams per serving.
RELATED: Can You Take Too Much Creatine?
The ingredient list also includes BCAA and glutamine, with specific dosing, but it’s unclear if these are the amino acids naturally found in protein, or if MuscleTech added extra. Whey protein is a high-quality protein source that’s already rich in essential amino acids.
Taste and Solubility
For both taste and solubility, Colin tried the chocolate flavor and gave Mass Tech 2000 a 2 out of 5 rating.
In his words: “I tried Triple Chocolate Brownie, but it had a mocha flavor to it. It tasted more like Mocha Fudge rather than a chocolate brownie. I really didn’t like the taste. It’s extremely thin with water but if you mix it with milk, it becomes very thick—like, wildly thick. It’s close to a pudding consistency.”
While some reviews do say the taste is good, our experience was quite different, which is reflected in our score.
Side Effects
Colin didn’t experience any side effects, so this earns a 5-out-of-5-star rating. However, there are quite a few ingredients in this product, including over 450 grams of carbs, artificial sweeteners, and oats, so those with sensitive stomachs may experience digestive issues.
It’s also worth calling out the 10 grams of creatine. While creatine is very safe and effective, higher doses can diarrhea and potentially other digestive issues2, so be sure you’re familiar with how to use creatine if you’re going to take so much at once.
Third-Party Testing
Third-party testing ensures that you’re getting what’s claimed on the label, with accurate dosing and no hidden ingredients. Unfortunately, Mass Tech Extreme 2000 is not third-party tested at all, so it scores a 1 out of 5 for this category.

The recommended serving for Mutant Mass is less than half the amount of the recommended Mass Tech Extreme 2000 serving size, so it’s not a perfect comparison. For a more accurate comparison, you could double the prices and ingredients in the Mutant Mass table below.
Mutant Mass is better for those who want a slower-digesting supplement, or value third-party testing, while Mass Tech Extreme is better for those who want the fastest digestion speed.

Customer Experience
The MuscleTech sales page for Mass Tech Extreme 2000 mentions a 30-day return policy, but the returns page says you have 60 days to request a return, so it may be longer than 30 days.
To initiate your return, you’ll need to first fill out the contact form on the website, which is the only way to contact MuscleTech. No email addresses or phone numbers are listed. The return policy isn’t bad, but I wish MuscleTech offered more ways to contact the support team. The overall customer experience earns a 3 out of 5.
Ordering MuscleTech Mass Tech Extreme 2000
If you’re planning on ordering MuscleTech Mass Tech Extreme 2000, know that it’s significantly cheaper on Amazon, averaging $39.99, while MuscleTech sells it directly for $54.99.
That said, if you do want to order from MuscleTech, the website claims orders ship within two to three business days, and you’ll receive free shipping on orders over $25.
Customer Reviews
Mass Tech Extreme 2000 has over 350 ratings on Amazon at the time of writing, with an average review score of 4.3. On the MuscleTech website, there are only 30 reviews, with an average rating of 4.9.
Positive reviews say they love the taste and high calories per serving, while other negative reviews mainly have issues with the texture, as well as the large serving size which wouldn’t fit into a shaker cup.
Final Verdict of Our MuscleTech Mass Tech Extreme 2000 Review
Overall, this is an expensive mass gainer that’s high in calories, with a high protein content to support muscle growth. Our tester didn’t like the flavor or texture at all, saying he prefers other mass gainers, but of course, the taste is always subjective.
If you’re going to use this, you may want to use half a serving to bring down your cost, which is quite high, and I can’t imagine many people needing a full 2,100 calories from a shake anyway. The cost and overall score would be much better if the recommended serving size was only three scoops instead of six, so the protein powder itself isn’t too bad, but the six-scoop serving size brings down our score.
For those who want to try Mass Tech Extreme 2000, you’ll get the best value ordering from Amazon, and only using three scoops at a time.
- Mass Tech Extreme 2000 is very high in calories and carbohydrates and contains 10 grams of creatine per serving.
- If you follow the recommended serving size of six scoops, the price per serving is the highest of any protein we’ve ever tested, and it’s not even close.
- The product will mix very thick, especially in milk, so keep that in mind if you don’t enjoy thick shakes.

MuscleTech Mass Tech Extreme 2000 Review: FAQs
Is Mass Tech Extreme 2000 a mass gainer?
Yes. With over 2,100 calories per serving, Mass Tech Extreme 2000 would certainly qualify as a mass gainer that can help users gain weight.
How do you use MuscleTech Mass Tech Extreme 2000?
If using a shaker cup, use half a serving (three scoops) mixed with 8 to 10 ounces of water or skim milk, and consume twice per day. If you’re using a full serving, which is six scoops, MuscleTech suggests using a full-size blender.
What does Mass Tech do to your body?
Mass Tech supplies a high amount of calories, including protein, carbohydrates, and fats to support weight gain. The protein can help recovery and muscle growth when paired with resistance training, and the creatine is meant to help improve strength and power.
What happens if you take a mass gainer without working out?
If you’re not working out, taking a mass gainer will simply increase your overall calorie intake. This will lead to weight gain if you’re in a calorie surplus, but if you’re not working out, this weight is more likely to be fat gain rather than muscle gain.
