Our Experts Shake Things Up With the Best Shaker Bottles of 2025

When it comes to shaker bottles, no list would be complete without BlenderBottle, who first came onto the scene in 2004. And while it may seem pretty basic, it’s our top pick, as it earned high scores for being affordable, durable, and available in multiple styles and sizes.

Several members of the GGR team—myself included—have used BlenderBottles for years. For this review, though, certified personal trainer Lauren Strong was our official product tester. She rates the materials and durability a 4 out of 5, saying, “In my household, BlenderBottles get a ton of use. The cups are very durable, and we like that the plastic is BPA-free, but the lids do tend to break after years of use.”

Lauren also gives the BlenderBottle Classic V2 a 4 out of 5 for blendability. “I think metal blender balls are becoming obsolete, and I always toss them. I can always get my protein powder to dissolve well in one of these bottles with a bit of elbow grease and a strong shake,” she explains.

BlenderBottles are lightweight and have a carrying loop you can attach a carabiner to. Plus, they fit easily in car cup holders, making them ideal for carrying to and from the gym. As Lauren points out, the lids can become the weak point over time, leading to issues with leaking, but the brand new bottle she tested didn’t leak at all. She rates the bottles a perfect 5 out of 5 for their portability and leakproof capabilities.

BlenderBottles are effective at mixing protein powder and other powdered supplements, but they’re not particularly fancy. If you’re looking for a more high-tech option, consider the PROMiXX Shaker Rechargeable Bottle or VOLTRX Electric Protein Shaker bottle instead.

Many shaker bottles are inexpensive, but the more bells and whistles you add to them, the pricier they’ll be; some of the electric or stainless steel shaker bottles we tested were $30 or more. If you’re not looking to drop too much money at once, you can look at the no-frills Contigo Shake & Go Fit Shaker Bottle.

At under $12 for the 20-ounce bottle and $15 for the 28-ounce bottle (and often marked down on Amazon), this is one of the best budget shaker bottles we tested. I rate the overall value a 4 out of 5, since there aren’t a lot of extra features to it—but for its price, it’s hard to beat.

While plastic, the BPA-free material feels very sturdy and durable. As long as you’re using your Contigo bottle properly and not slamming it down on the floor after your shake, it should last for a while. I did knock a point off of the score, rating it a 4 out of 5 for durability, because the printed logo has already begun to fade after only about a month of use. Aesthetically, it’ll look fine when the print fades, as the logo is still embossed on the lid.

I’ve been using the larger 28-ounce shaker cup, and it still fits in my cup holder. With a loop on the lid that can attach to a carabiner on your gym bag, it certainly makes taking it along to and from the gym a breeze. Plus, the lid remains secure during travel, leading me to rate the portability and leakproof capabilities of the Contigo bottle a 5 out of 5.

I rate the Contigo Shake & Go a 4 out of 5 for blendability, since it blends pretty well with most protein powders. I’ve had some mixed results with some of the thicker protein powders and shakes I’ve used in it, however, like Muscle Milk Pro Series. A little extra shaking was all it needed to get the desired consistency, though. 

I will also note that the weighted shaker ball is loud when rattling against the plastic bottle, but for the price, that little annoyance is worth it, especially considering that it’s entirely dishwasher-safe.

Our favorite stainless steel shaker bottle had to be the BrüMate Multishaker Blender Bottle, tested by Erin Chancer, NASM-CNC, ISSA-CPT. With a built-in “agitator infuser,” an insert with oblong slats used to help mix the protein powder and also catch any clumps that were missed, and nice features to aid in carrying it to and from places, Erin really enjoys this shaker bottle.

“I found it to mix pretty thoroughly,” Erin adds. “I did notice that I had some protein powder settle toward the bottom after a bit, but I’m chalking that up to a problem with the protein powder more than the bottle.” She rates the blendability a 5 out of 5.

The 26-ounce shaker bottle also gets top marks in its durability. With an insulated stainless steel bottle and a heavy-duty plastic top, the shaker bottle held up well in Erin’s testing. She also notes that the plastic used is free of BPA and toxins as well. BrüMate does specify that the Multishaker Blender Bottle is intended only for cold beverages, however, as the lid isn’t made for hot beverages. For protein shakes, this shouldn’t be an issue.

The BrüMate has a silicone strap for easy carrying, and was leakproof in Erin’s testing. “It’s marketed as leakproof, and I had zero issues with any leaks while I used it,” she adds, rating the leakproof capability and portability a 5 out of 5.

The plastic pieces of the BrüMate Multishaker Blender Bottle are dishwasher-safe, but the stainless steel bottle is recommended to be hand-washed. Since it doesn’t have a wide mouth like many other shaker bottles, Erin equates it to washing a Stanley water bottle, rating the ease of cleaning a 4 out of 5.

At around $35, this is definitely one of the pricier shaker bottles on our list, but for its added features, this stainless steel shaker bottle will appeal to those who are looking to splurge a bit.

I’ve been there before: After a workout of blasting your upper body with some of the best arm exercises, the thought of shaking a bottle for some post-workout protein seems daunting. Fortunately, the VOLTRX Electric Protein Shaker Bottle takes the shaking out of the equation. This rechargeable electric bottle uses a mixer at the bottom of the bottle to do the shaking for you.

“When you consider you’re not having to do any of the work yourself, it blends really well,” says GGR Staff Writer Stephen Sheehan, CNC, CPT. Although VOLTRX markets that it’ll fully dissolve protein powder within 15 seconds, Stephen used the full 30-second timer to blend his shake together. “After one blend, it was mostly smooth, but I’d usually hit it for a second blend just to remove any leftover grit.” He rates the blendability a 4.5 out of 5.

The bottle gets a 5 out of 5 for its materials and durability. VOLTRX uses Tritan which is a BPA- and phthalate-free plastic known for its durability. It includes a simple USB-C cable for recharging the electric mixer—although you won’t need charging too much, since a single charge is supposed to last for up to two months.

The mixer is the bottom, so it has to screw into the actual shaker bottle to be used; Stephen says that when it’s screwed in correctly, it is 100% leakproof, earning it a 5 out of 5 for its lack of leaking. “I made the silly mistake of not screwing in the bottom my first time using it and made a mess on my counter, but since my user error, I haven’t worried about leaks at all,” he adds.

With a base that can fit a car’s cup holder and a large flip handle on the lid, this shaker bottle is easy to carry around to and from the gym, too. At $25, it’s a little more expensive than other shaker bottles, but you can often find it for cheaper on Amazon; Stephen found his VOLTRX bottle for just $16.

GGR Senior Editor Amanda Dvorak, ISSA-CPT, has been using the PROMiXX Shaker Rechargeable Bottle five or six days a week for over two months now. “Since getting this shaker bottle, I haven’t really touched the other few shaker bottles I own,” she says. It’s our top pick for the best electric shaker bottle because the battery lasts for a long time (she’s only charged it once since getting it), the motor is quiet, and the bottle is fairly durable.

I say “fairly” durable because Amanda notes, “The bottle feels sturdy and has held up pretty well, aside from a small chip on the bottom of the cup.” She hasn’t dropped it so she’s not sure where the chip came from, which led her to rate it a 4 out of 5 for durability. She’s kept the rating on the higher end, though, since there’s been no other durability issues; plus, the plastic used is BPA-free.

The blendability gets a 4 out of 5, as Amanda says, “The bottle blends pretty well, although I’ll notice some grittiness after more than 20 seconds of blending. That’s mostly due to the supplements I use, though, like a pretty gritty creatine I add to my protein shakes.” The battery charge can also impact the blendability of the shake; less charge means less power, and the shaker bottle will take longer to mix fully.

Amanda’s biggest gripe with the PROMiXX is that it’s not dishwasher-safe. “It’s easy to clean by putting a few drops of dish soap and water in it and turning on the electric base, but I do wish I could just throw it in the dishwasher once I’ve finished my drink,” she explains. 

The plastic blades can hold onto odors a bit as well, which requires her to scrub the blades pretty vigorously to eliminate the odor. For those reasons, she scores the ease of cleaning a 3.5 out of 5.

Hydro Flask is known for their water bottles that keep drinks cold for up to 24 hours, which is why their Insulated Shaker Bottle gets our pick for the best insulated shaker bottle. 

As an example, our tester Amanda Dvorak, ISSA-CPT, personally owns dozens of Hydro Flask water bottles and drinkware. “I’ve left a water bottle in my car overnight with ice in it during the summer,” she says, “and there were still some ice cubes left when I retrieved the bottle the next morning.” That’s some legitimate insulation.

Amanda has had her stainless steel Hydro Flask Insulated Shaker Bottle for more than two years now, and it’s still going strong. “I use it at least twice a week and run it through the dishwasher after each use, and I’ve yet to notice any damage,” she explains. The coating can chip if you bang the bottle against other metal objects, so she rates the durability a near-perfect 4.5 out of 5.

For design and capacity, Amanda rates it a 4.5 out of 5. The shaker bottle is available in several colors and can hold up to 24 ounces. “The most amount of water I’ve ever added to it is around 20 ounces, but I like having the extra room to ensure my drink blends well once I shake it,” Amanda adds.

The Hydro Flask Insulated Shaker Bottle earns another 4.5 out of 5 for blendability, as the bottle works pretty well but leaves a couple clumps here and there. “The solubility depends more on the type of supplement or powder I’m using, though,” Amanda explains. “Some protein powders just won’t completely mix until you put them in a blender.”

The bottle easily fits in a car cup holder, plus it’s easy to carry thanks to a carrying strap on the lid. The seal in the lid keeps liquids inside the bottle—the only times Amanda has had issues with it leaking were when she forgot to put the seal back in place after running the bottle through the dishwasher. “I’ve used several different types of shaker bottles over the years, and this is the only one I rated a perfect 5 out of 5 for both portability and leakproofness,” she adds.

Since this is an insulated, stainless steel bottle, it is on the pricy side at around $35. It’s one of the more expensive stainless steel shaker bottles we’ve tested. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly pick, take a look at the BlenderBottle Classic V2 or the Contigo Shake and Go Fit Shaker instead.

While shaker bottles can be an extremely convenient way to transport and mix your protein shakes, there has always been one piece that always seems to go missing in the first week or so: the blender ball. It’s easy for them to fall into the dark corners of your car or kitchen cabinet if you’re not careful, and others even question how much they help with blending.

If you’d rather not keep up with a shaker ball, the Helimix Vortex Shaker Bottle is perfect for you. Instead of a shaker ball, the bottle itself is designed with a slight twist that makes the liquid and protein rotate and mix together while you shake. “I love the design, and the fact that you don’t need any blender ball,” says GGR Staff Writer Matt Dustin, CSCS, PN1-NC. Along with two different sizes available and a whopping 22 different colorways, he rates the design a 5 out of 5.

Matt was surprised at the Helimix’s efficacy in blending protein, rating it a 4.5 out of 5 for its blendability. “There were a few small clumps after shaking for a bit, but they went away with a bit more aggressive shaking,” he adds. “You might need to shake a little longer than without a blender ball, but the end result is about the same.”

Helimix makes their Vortex bottle with a BPA-free copolyester plastic that is marketed as odor-resistant and shatterproof as well. Matt rates the durability of the shaker bottle a 4.5 out of 5, explaining that “the plastic could get scuffed if you’re consistently shaking it with ice regularly, but it feels very durable otherwise.”

“I thought it’d be a bit gimmicky, but it works really well, even with thicker shakes with milk,” Matt adds. At $25, this is a pricier plastic shaker bottle, but Matt says it’s worth it—especially since you don’t have to keep track of a shaker ball. He rates the value a 4.5 out of 5.

Mixing your protein shake before hitting your bench press workout might let your cold shake hit room temperature by the end of your workout. If you want your post-workout shake fresh, consider a shaker bottle with protein storage—like the SmartShake Original2Go ONE Shaker Bottle.

I’ve been using the SmartShake Original2Go for a few months now, and can’t speak highly enough about my experience. The shaker bottle’s protein powder compartment allows me to use the bottle for water during my workout, but still be able to mix my shake after I’m done.

Along with protein storage, it has tons of fun features, too, leading me to rate the design and capacity a 5 out of 5. The 27-ounce container has measurements up to 20 ounces, plus it has a carabiner for easy transport and carrying on your gym bag. 

Instead of a shaker ball, the SmartShake uses a mixer net with honeycomb-shaped holes, for agitating the shake and also straining any loose clumps from your shake—although I never had any clumps. The mixer net works exceptionally well, so the SmartShake gets a 5 out of 5 for blendability.

With the carabiner, the shaker bottle is pretty portable, and the bottle also fits in my car cup holder—but just barely. The Original2Go ONE Shaker also remains leakproof in my gym bag, both the shaker bottle and the protein storage compartment (just make sure it’s all fastened tight). It earns a 4.5 out of 5 for its portability and leakproof capabilities.

One of my favorite aspects of this shaker bottle is its value. All these features on a shaker bottle are still very affordable, with the SmartShake costing around $15. As with many of these shaker bottles, however, you might be able to find them on sale at times…I got mine from Amazon for under $10. The BPA-free plastic isn’t insulated, though, so if you’re wanting your shake to remain cool, consider a stainless steel bottle like the Hydro Flask Insulated Shaker Bottle.

Our product tester Lauren Strong, CPT, has tried out the Ice Shaker bottle, and loves the durability and materials, including a kitchen-grade, double-wall insulated stainless steel bottle with coated exterior and silicone base. She docked a half-point from the score, however, since the silicone warped slightly while in the dishwasher, rating the durability a 4.5 out of 5.

“The instructions say that the Ice Shaker is top rack safe, but recommended to be hand-washed,” Lauren explains. “After warping the silicone base, the reality is you’ll get the most out of this shaker bottle by hand-washing it.” The rest of the bottle holds up well in the dishwasher, though, leading her to rate the ease of cleaning a 4.5 out of 5.

The Ice Shaker uses a twist-on agitator with slotted holes to help blend your protein drink up. “It has the best blendability,” Laurens says, rating the blendability a 5 out of 5. “I’ve used it for cold and hot drinks, and it performs well each time; it’ll blend anything.”

At around $35 a pop, this is a pricey shaker bottle. However, with its durability and effectiveness, Lauren rates the overall value a 5 out of 5. “All the small parts—the seal, lid, agitator, and base—are replaceable on the Ice Shaker website,” Lauren adds. “So the $35 investment is pretty good knowing this may be the only shaker cup you’ll ever really need moving forward.”
